Baseline Concussion Testing with Ben Hogan

Baseline Concussion Testing

An exciting new season is upon us! The successes from last year lead the way to new goals and expectations for 2017 – 2018. Tryouts have been intense under the bright Texas sun, but new relationships have been forged, and many games are to be won.

As you prepare your players and teams for this new season, baseline concussion testing may not be the first thing on the agenda. Ben Hogan Sports Medicine has partnered with Solar SC to provide you with the best tools available for baseline testing. Baseline testing is completed in front of a computer, with athletes completing a series of games and tasks designed to measure cognitive ability and reaction time. There are no invasive procedures or imaging scans completed during the baseline testing. The goal of baseline testing is to create a unique, individualized starting point in the care of concussion injuries. While athletic trainers, coaches, and organizations try to limit concussion injuries, concussions are an inherent risk of sport participation. Having a baseline test will help physicians create the most effective care plan possible to return the athlete to the pitch in a safe and timely manner.

Concussion baseline testing can be challenging but there are many options available to accomplish this task. We can test your team in a group setting. Players can make individual appoints at one of our concussion centers in Dallas, Fort Worth, or Plano. If you have additional questions, concerns, or needs, contact me at your earliest convenience, and I will work with you to determine the easiest way to complete baseline testing. Cost per athlete $5

Proactive planning can help create a culture of safe sport participation. This culture can provide young athletes with a positive, safe, and enjoyable experience while playing sport.

Best wishes on the upcoming season!
